Mwanza is a city in Tanzania.
The city of Mwanza is the administrative center of the Tanzanian region of Mwanza. The urban population is 225,244 people, with the suburbs - 436,811 people (as of January 1, 2005). The city is located in the area of residence of the Sukuma people. Large port on Lake Victoria, international airport, railway junction. Mwanza was founded in 1892 by the German colonial authorities. In 1916 it was occupied by the British. In the 20s of the twentieth century, gold deposits were discovered in the area of the city, in 1928 a railway line from Tabora was brought to Mwanza. During the Second Ugandan-Tanzanian War in 1978, the city was bombed by the Ugandan Air Force.
